1.Snopes
Snopes is the oldest and largest fact-checking online site. Starting in 1994 it grew by investigating urban legends, folklore and hoaxes. Snopes claims to be the internet’s definitive fact-checking resource. Snopes’ fact-checking and it’s investigative reporting provides evidence-based and contextualised analysis. They document their sources to assist independent research.
2. Churnalism
Churnalism.com independent website built by the Media Standards Trust helps you distinguish between real journalism and ‘churnalism’. Churnalism is an article which appears to be journalism but is actually based on a press release without much more writing. Cardiff University research states that 54% of news articles have some PR in them.
3. Full Fact
Full Fact is a search engine fact checks to find the right information about claims made by journalists, viral content politicians and public institutions. Once a false claim is isolated, they ask for the record to be corrected. They monitor these claims to see where they are repeated and attempt to tackle them.
4. TinEye
TinEye the best reverse image search engine. Submit an image to determine where it originated from, how it is being used and if modified versions of the image exist. The search engine uses image identification technology rather than keywords, watermarks or metadata.
5. Channel 4 Factcheck
This fact check tests the claims of people in power brought to you by the UK’s Channel 4 News.
6. FactCheck.org
FactCheck.org is as a consumer advocate for voters to reduce potential deception and confusion within US politics. It’s a project from the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The Annenberg Foundation funds it.
7. Google Fact Check
This Fact Check tool from Google has two tools: The Fact Check Explorer. And Fact Check Markup Tool. These tools assist the work of fact-checkers, researchers and journalists.
8. Credibility Coalition
An impartial, non-partisan tool that aims to reduce the level of confusion and deception in US politics.
They monitor US political players’ factual accuracy within TV ads, speeches, debates, interviews, and press releases.
9. AFP Factcheck
Your work follows the mission of the AFP is to provide accurate, balanced and impartial coverage of news “with an independent voice free of political, commercial or ideological influence.” AFP is part of Facebook’s third-party fact-checking programme. We consider stories flagged on Facebook as part of the material we investigate. Content rated false by fact-checkers is downgraded in the news feeds so fewer people will see it.
10. Lead Stories
Lead Stories is a fact-checking website looks for the latest false, deceptive or inaccurate media making the rounds on the internet.
